1. Do I
need to have a used car inspected if I am buying from a dealer?
Yes.
Used cars are just that…used.
They all have had different treatment and maintenance histories. Just because it was inspected or certified
doesn’t mean it is without problems. In
fact, many dealer inspections prior to sale include only checking lights and
brakes. The car could look and run fine
but have serious problems.
2. Do I
need an inspection if the car comes with a warranty or I am buying an extended
warranty?
Yes. Many warranties that are included in a
used car cover only 50% parts and labor and it’s the selling dealer’s choice as
to the quality of the repair when a breakdown occurs. These warranties usually
cover the items least likely to fail. Practically speaking, used cars with
these warranties should be considered “as-is” with no warranty. If you are purchasing an extended warranty,
there is usually a 30 day waiting period where there is no coverage if a
breakdown occurs. In either of these
situations, a pre-purchase inspection is a wise choice.
3. What
does the inspection include and how much does it cost?
For $139.00 (less than 1% of the price of
the average used car) Inspect-A-Car will
perform a thorough 150 point bumper-to-bumper inspection including OBD II engine
and transmission diagnostics, electrical and charging system, check for frame and accident damage, disc brake pads,
suspension, A/C, accessories, road test and more. Click HERE to view our 150 point checklist.
4. How
long does the inspection take?
1 to 1 ½ hours depending on the size, make
and model vehicle.
5. Do
you need a lift like they have in a shop? How do you inspect under the car?
All cars are lifted to inspect for leaks, damage and rust. We use a portable jack and lift the car enough so the technician can lay on his back to inspect. You get the same thorough undercarriage inspection as in a shop.
6. How
far in advance do I need to make an appointment?
Inspect-A-Car generally needs a few hours
to ½ day’s notice. This all depends on the schedules of the buyer, seller and
technician.
7. Do I
need to be present during the inspection?
No. Many of our customers have very busy
schedules so Inspect-A-Car can inspect the vehicle without the buyer
present. We will accept credit cards HERE on our site or over the phone.
8. How
do I get the inspection report?
If you are not meeting the technician at
the location of the inspection, he will phone you with the results immediately following the inspection and
email the report.
9. What
are Inspect-A-Car’s hours?
We are open 8am to sunset Monday through Saturday. Sunday appointments are available by special appointment with advance notice.
10. Do
dealers allow you to come onto their lot and inspect their cars?
Yes. Reputable dealers large or small will
have no problem allowing an inspection. If a dealer or seller will not allow an
inspection you should find another car.
11. What type of service credentials does
Inspect-A-Car have?
Inspect-A-Car is ASE Certified and also an
accredited member of the Better Business Bureau. We are also registered with the CA Dept. of
Consumer Affairs.
12. What
